Just east of El Yunque on Highway 3 is Luquillo Beach. This huge plantation of majestic coconut palms shades more than a mile of fine, shimmering sand. Luquillo Beach is a Balneario, which means it is one of a series of public beaches throughout Puerto Rico, open daily from 9am-5pm, with lockers and showers, a refreshment stand and picnic tables. Special wheelchair- accessible facilities have been installed, dubbed `Sea Without Barriers`. Located on the east edge of Luquillo Beach, this facility features staff trained in assisting the disabled along with special equipment and entry systems designed to make the beautiful Puerto Rican waters as accessible as possible.
