Completed by 1540, La Fortazela was a defense against foreign invaders. It soon lost its military value and has spent centuries as an executive mansion. While the tower and gate date back to 1540, most of the architecture was built in the 1800's. Recently designated a World Heritage Site, La Fortazela offers guided tours in English and Spanish from 9am-11am, 100- 300pm, Monday-Friday, excluding holidays.
