Blithewold Mansion & Gardens |
Located just south of Bristol on Hwy 114, this historic mansion was the summer residence of Pennsylvania coal magnate Augustus Van Wickle. The 45-room 1908 mansion, styled after a typical 19th century English country manor, is surrounded by 33 acres of landscaped grounds, gardens and exotic plants, including a 90-foot giant Sequoia, native to California. Pamphlets identify the many plant species along a self-guided trail. Guided tours are also available; events are scheduled year-round. Picnicking is permitted on the grounds; hours vary seasonally.
