The land that East Matunuck State Beach now sits on was acquired by the State of Rhode Island in 1956 through Condemnation. The Division of Parks and Recreation took over all the care-taking and maintenance of the land. The State of Rhode Island acquired this land (just over 144 acres) for a grand total of 125,737.
