Rochambeau Statue and Monument |
These memorialize the arrival of the Comte de Rochambeau in 1780 with the first French allies, the 5,500 man Royal French Expeditionary Force. The statue depicts him direction his forces and wearing the uniform of a major general of the Continental Army. The female Liberty grasps two flags in her left hand, France and America, and a drawn drawn sword in her right hand, defending an embattled eagle.
