The museum contains outstanding collections of American art and portraits relating to Southern history. The collection of miniatures housed here is considered to be one of the world's finest.
The Gibbes Museum is open from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday, and from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday. The musuem is closed on Monday.Gibbes' docents present an overview of the museum's exhibitions every Tuesday and Saturday at 2:30 p.m. Tours are offered on the second Tuesday of every month at 5:00 pm as part of the museum's Art After Dark program. These docent-led tours provide an in-depth view of a current exhibition at the Gibbes.
