Hartwell Lake

Hartwell Lake lies behind Hartwell Dam, completed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in 1963. In addition to flood control and the provision of reliable water flow for downstream hydroelectric plants, the project has become one of the Corps' most popular recreation sites, visited by more than 10 million people annually. Lake Hartwell State Park is situated on the lake.
