The monks of Mepkin Abbey belong to the worldwide Order of Cistercians of the Strict Observance. The Cistercian Order was founded in France in 1098 by a small band of monks from the Abbey of Molesme.

The monks of Mepkin Abbey welcome many kinds of visitors. Visitors may come to see the historic Mepkin Abbey Church and the Nancy Bryan Luce Gardens. Guests are invited to stay just ten minutes or guests may walk the grounds leisurely and remain for an hour or more. Visitors are welcome seven days a week between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. The guestmaster greets guests at the Reception Center. The guestmaster answers any questions visitors may have and directs guests to the Nancy Bryan Luce Gardens. Guided tours are available at 10:30 a.m., 11:45 a.m., and 3:00 p.m. Admission is free to public.
