South Carolina's Northwest is comprised of two of the state's official tourism regions. The Upcountry Region is located in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains where beautiful waterfalls, lush forests, lovely lakes and rivers, and scenic highways abound. Opportunities for adventures in this region include horseback riding and hiking mountain trails, camping, fishing, golfing and whitewater rafting on the Chattooga National Wild & Scenic River. Rich in cultural history, the region also offers upscale art galleries and museums. The second of the Northwest tourism regions is the Old 96 District, which boasts an Old South mystique, rich rural beauty, and plenty of outdoor recreation.
