Buffalo is located in
Harding County (of which it is the county seat) north of
Rapid City between
Belle Fourche and the North Dakota state line along US 85 on the banks of the South Fork of the Grand River near the Montana state line, in
Great Lakes Region. The population estimate for July 1, 1998 was 436, a decrease of 52 since 1990.
