Search Deadwood South Dakota

Deadwood is located in Lawrence County (of which it is the county seat) northwest of Rapid City between Spearfish and Sturgis along I-90 near the Redwater River and the Black Hills National Forest. In Black Hills, Badlands & Lakes Region, it is situated just east of the Wyoming state line.

The entire town burned in 1879 and the ornate Victorian style in which it was rebuilt has set its style ever since. That fact, plus its abundance of gambling venues and outdoor attractions, make it a very popular tourist destination.

The population estimate for July 1, 1998 was 1,734, a decrease of 96 since 1990.
