In Black Hills, Badlands & Lakes Region, Murdo is located in Jones County (of which it is the county seat) southwest of Pierre on I-90 where US 83 connects. It is on the border of Central and Mountain time zones.It is largely dependent upon tourism (see Attractions, below) to support its agricultural base.
