When it comes to snowmobiling, South Dakota is hard to beat. Whether it’s mountain exploring or scooting across the open prairie, snowmobilers find what they’re looking for.
South Dakota’s Department of Game, Fish and Parks manages the groomed trails. Nine trails are located in the eastern part of the state, while an extensive Black Hills system provides days of riding enjoyment.
All trail systems in the state have been developed exclusively for snowmobile use. All other motor vehicle operation is prohibited on these trail networks. The trail systems are open for snowmobiles from Dec.1 through March 15, except for some Black Hills trails which may remain closed until Dec. 15. Trails are groomed between these dates depending on snow conditions.
