Adrian, on I-40 and US 66 in Oldham County, originated in 1900 when the Rock Island survey west of Amarillo picked the site as a station.
In a very dry area, Adrian survived famines and black dusters to become a stopping place for travelers on the famed Route 66, and a shipping point for area wheat growers. Its 1990 population was 220.
