Anderson is located northwest of
Houston on Hwy 90 near
Navasota, in
Grimes County.
In 1833, Henry Fanthorp built a home which was used as a tavern known as Fanthrop Inn. The town that sprang up around it when mail route was located here was known as Alta Mira, meaning High View. The town was re-named Anderson in honor of Kenneth Anderson, last Vice-President of the Republic of Texas. Anderson, incidentally, died in Fanthrop's Inn.
