Baird is located in
Callahan County, just east of
Abilene on I-20 at its junction with US 283. At 1,658 in 1990, the population has decreased since its glory days. Industries have included gins, an oil refinery, flour mills, and a feed mill.
The county hospital is in Baird now, and the town is the center for local oilfield supplies and ranching.
