Originally created at Ellington Air Force Base, Ellington Field was transferred to the city of Houston in 1984. There is still a military presence at the field, but the facility also serves corporate, commercial, cargo, and private aviation operations. Ellington Field is operated by the Houston Airport System, which also operates Houston Hobby Airport and Bush Intercontinental Airport.
