Elgin

The Sausage Capital of Texas

Elgin is located 19 miles east of Austin on US 290 and Hwy 95, and 15 miles north of Bastrop in Bastrop County.

Elgin lays claim to many things Texan: first-class barbecue and hot sausage; festivals, parades, and rodeos to entertain all ages and temperaments; sights, sounds and savory selections for tourists; antiques for the discerning collector; veterinary and cattle breeding services; semiconductor support services; brick manufacturing; and most importantly, Texas history.

Elgin produces and ships more than 2.7 million pounds of sausage yearly.

It celebrates Western Days in July, and Hogeye in October.

A community of over 6,500 residents, Elgin is part of the Austin-San Marcos, Texas metro area.
