Elgin is located 19 miles east of
Austin on US 290 and Hwy 95, and 15 miles north of
Bastrop in
Bastrop County.
Elgin lays claim to many things Texan: first-class barbecue and hot sausage; festivals, parades, and rodeos to entertain all ages and temperaments; sights, sounds and savory selections for tourists; antiques for the discerning collector; veterinary and cattle breeding services; semiconductor support services; brick manufacturing; and most importantly, Texas history.
Elgin produces and ships more than 2.7 million pounds of sausage yearly.
It celebrates Western Days in July, and Hogeye in October.
A community of over 6,500 residents, Elgin is part of the Austin-San Marcos, Texas metro area.
