Groveton is the seat of
Trinity County, and lies at the intersection of US 287 and Hwy 94, southeast of
Crockett.
It started in 1881 and boomed as a lumber town, but had its ups and downs with the industry. By the 1980s Groveton was once again a lumbering center and had become a gateway to the recreation areas of the Davy Crockett National Forest. It was also a retail center for Trinity County, as well as a center for small manufacturing.
In 1988 it had a population of 1,286 and twenty-seven businesses. In 1990 the population was 1,071.
