Built 1878--82 at a cost of $4,750 for Confederate veteran Dr James Lay. The builder was by B. J. E. Dietz and the architect was Victor Hugo. Native stone walls, 18-24 inches thick and unusual patterned mansard roof and rope molding. Drive-by viewing only. On Hwy 90A in city. Owned and preserved since 1948 by former Mayor M. I. Bozka. Recorded Texas Historic Landmark, 1968.
