Lajitas Texas

Pronounced la-HEE-tahs, Lajitas is located at the western edge of Big Bend National Park, on Farm Road 170 off Hwy 118 on the Rio Grande River and the border with Chihuahua.

It was established in 1915 when an army post was established to protect the area against the flamboyant Mexican bandit Pancho Villa. Tourists enjoy Lajitas year round, with winter being the most popular period.

It is in Brewster County, southwest of Presidio.
