Laredo

In Webb County, Laredo is located southwest of San Antonio on I-35 / US 83, US 59, and Hwy 359 on the banks of the Rio Grande River and on the Mexico border.

Founded by a group of Spaniards in 1755, Laredo claims to be the oldest independent city in the state of Texas. During its long history, Laredo came under the rule of several nations and republics.

Laredo is known today as the city under seven flags.

The city also has become the principal border port of entry; hence the name Gateway City to Mexico. Laredo is situated just across the river from its sister city, Nuevo Laredo. Visitors park in downtown Laredo and walk to the tourist district in Nuevo Laredo.

Laredo attractions include the Heritage Trolley Tour of Historic Laredo and the Laredo Center for the Arts, among others. Texas A&M University maintains a campus here.
