Old Fort Parker State Historic Site

Established 1834 by Silas and James Parker, this private fort's aim was to protect a handful of families, until in 1838 a Commanche attack killed many and captured many of the Parker family, including Cynthia Ann Parker, who grew up and married a Commanche chief, until she was re-captured with her daughter 24 years later. Unreconciled with her white family she withered away four years later, both she and her daughter not withstanding liberation. Restored in 1936 and again in 1967, the fort has pioneer memorabilia, authentic log blockhouses and stockade. Admission.
