Port Isabel LighthouseState Historical Park |
Situated on just under an acre in Port Isabel, the park is the site of the historic Port Isabel Lighthouse. Built in 1852 to assist seagoing commerce, the light was extinguished in 1905. It fell into neglect until funds were provided for its restoration in 1947. Of the 16 lighthouses originally constructed along the Texas coast, only Port Isabel is open to the public. The grassy knowl where the lighthouse sits is ideal for strolling and relaxing. Picnic tables are also available.
