Sherman is located in Grayson County (of which it is the county seat) north of Dallas between Gainesville and Paris along US 82 and US 69 near the Red River and the Oklahoma state line, just south of Lake Texoma. The population estimate for July 1, 1998 was 34,044, an increase of 2,460 since 1990. Sherman is part of the Sherman-Denison, Texas metro area.
