Southern Methodist University

Founded in 1911, Southern Methodist University occupies a 163-acre campus 5 miles north of downtown Dallas. Although affiliated with the United Methodist Church, the university is nonsectarian. Competition is keen for admission to SMU's undergraduate student body of around 5000. Three out of five undergraduates come outside Texas. In addition to the undergraduate program, SMU has a large population of graduate students. Fraternities and sororities are very active. SMU plays intercollegiate sports and also provides intramurals. Popular majors include finance, psychology, and accounting.
