Stamford is located north of Abilene toward Haskell on US 277 and Hwys 6 and 92 near Lake Stamford and the Clear Fork of the Brazos River.In Jones County, it was developed in 1899 as a project of the Texas Central Railroad, and named after Connecticut hometown of the railroad president.
