In
Freestone County, Teague is located east of
Waco on US 84 and Hwy 179 almost to I-45, nine miles southwest of
Fairfield.
Since the mid-1980s, the population has grown steadily, and in 1990 Teague had 3,268 residents. The area has large coal, lignite, sand, and clay deposits. In recent years natural gas production has become an important industry.
