The Iwo Jima War Memorial

Located on the south campus parade deck of the Marine Military Acadamy next to Harlingen International Airport, is the original sculpture of World War 2's Iwo Jima flag-raising. This full-scale plaster (now fiberglass) statue was the model used to cast the Marine Corps War Memorial for Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia.

Museum displays include items from the battle, brief biographies of the people portrayed in the sculpture, and the Hall of Fame of Iwo Jima Veterans, a series of booksthat contain information and "then and now" pictures of Iwo Jima veterans. A videotape documentary of the battle for Iwo Jima is shown daily.
