Webster is located in
Harris County, on the southern edge of the
Houston, Texas metro area next to
League City on I-10.
It is just three miles west of the Lyndon B. Johnson Space Center.
Webster incorporated in 1958 but had no more than five businesses until a boom in 1961 caused by construction of the space center. After 1962 the town completed a hospital and civic center complex and annexed an additional 300 acres in southern Harris County. In 1976 Webster had a population of 3,250 and forty-seven businesses, after which population fluctuated. In 1978 the community had 1,981 residents and fifty-one businesses, and in 1989 it had 3,001 residents and 331 businesses. In 1990 the population was 2,757.
