Circle Alaska

Circle is located in Southeast Fairbanks Census Area, just 50 miles south of the Arctic Circle. Circle was was mistakenly named by early miners who thought it was in the Arctic Circle. It is located on the banks of the Yukon River and was the biggest mining town until the Klodike strike.

There is a post office and a campground at Mile 161 at the end of the Steese Hwy. The Circle Hot Springs are still popular and can be reached by the junction at Mile 127.8 Steese Hwy.

The Circle Mining District is the oldest in the state and is still active. A state-maintained gravel airstrip 3,600 feet in length is nearby. Heavy river traffic including canoeists brings activity to the area in the summers.
