Glenn Highway is a National Scenic Byway, and once you travel this stretch of road, you'll see why.
Glenn Hwy goes from the community of Tok along the Alaska Hwy west to Anchorage. The paved road is 328 miles long and is open all year. It includes 125 miles of the Tok Cutoff to the Richardson Hwy (Hwy 4) which leads to the Glenn Hwy/Tok Cutoff.
It is a full day's drive from the Alaska Hwy to Anchorage. There are four main side roads. The Nabesna Rd runs 45 miles from Mile 59.8 to the old mining community of Nabesna. It also accesses the nw corner of Wrangell-St Elias NP and Preserve.
The Lake Louise Rd joins at Mile 159.8. The Hatcher Pass Rd goes to the Parks Hwy. The Old Glenn Hwy is an alternate route between Palmer and Anchorage. The junction is the site of Pioneer Square Shopping Center.
There are many fossil beds and great rockhounding areas along the Glenn Highway.
