Kodiak Island

"The Emerald Isle"

Kodiak Island is the largest island in Alaska, and the second largest in the United States, after Hawaii's Big Island.

Kodiak Island has the world's biggest brown bears, one of the largest fishing fleets, the country's largest Coast Guard Station, and longest Alaska history.

The island is home to over 14,000 people, most of whom live in the main city of Kodiak, along the island's northeast side.

The Kodiak Island group perches on the continental shelf on the edge of the Aleutian Trench, making it highly susceptible to the after-effects of volcanic and seismic activity - such as tsunami's.
