Portage Glacier Cruises

The M/V Ptarmigan departs 1.5 miles south of the Begich-Boggs Visitor Center in the Portage Glacier Recreation Area. The one-hour narrated cruise takes visitors to the face of Portage Glacier.

Passengers can observe the glacier "calving" or breaking away into the lake below.

The ship carries 200 in the cabin with oversized windows or on the open-air observation deck. Shuttle and tour packages from Anchorage are also available. It departs several times daily May-September.
