Western Alaska

Western Alaska begins in the area to the north of the Alaska Peninsula and extends along the Bering Sea to the Seward Peninsula, not to be confused with the Seward city and Seward Hwy area on the Kenai Peninsula.

The best-known city in Western Alaska is Nome, famous as the destination of the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race sled dog legend. The icy wilderness area is populated mostly by Native Eskimo people. It extends inland from the Yukon River delta.
