Search Salt Lake City Utah

The Joseph Smith Memorial Building, formerly the Hotel Utah, was built in 1911. This stately building was completely renovated and reopened in 1993. It is named in honor of the man who was instrumental in restoring the gospel of Jesus Christ, translating the Book of Mormon, and organizing The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Guests are invited to take a tour of this beautiful building and, while there, view a free one-hour 70mm premier film in the Legacy Theater. Visitors can also find their ancestors at the Family Search Center, located near the main level west entrance. This center contains hundreds of millions of genealogical records from across the world. Experienced guides can help begin a search, and individual computer workstations, eight million paper records of pedigree charts and family group sheets, microfilm, microfiche, and books are all available for public use.

For that reason, many residents of the Valley wanted to reestablish their Welsh roots. In 2005, after a 90 year break, this annual cultural event, now called the Malad Valley Welsh Festival, once again became a reality.
