The climate is typically continental, with mild winters and very hot summers. The population is about 2,597,000 with approximately 70,7 % of the total population living in rural areas. The Province is divided into 15 administrative districts. The administrative center is Fergana city which has a population of 214,000. Other towns are Kokand, Kuva, Kuvasay, Margilan and Rishtan.
