Historic Crab Orchard Museum and Pioneer Park opened in 1982 as a non-profit historical museum named for the national landmark historic site. The park is open year round as the most comprehensive cultural heritage museum in the middle Appalachian Mountains. The exhibit galleries and the grounds are available for private functions of various kinds. The museum has a comprehensive library of books about the history of the region. The museum is dedicated to serving young people, as well as offering special educational experiences such as the Summer Pioneer Apprentice Camp.
