Architecturally resembling manor houses designed by William Adam of Scotland, Carlyle House is similar to Craigiehall in West Lothan, Scotland. Historians speculate that it may have been built from blueprints of Craigiehall. British General Edward Braddock made his headquarters here in the spring of 1755.
