Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel |
Over 17 miles long, the route carries Hwy 13 across the mouth of the bay from Virginia Beach to Virginia's eastern shore. Using bridges, tunnels and four man-made islands, the route offers a panoramic view. Although its individual components are neither the longest nor largest built, the bridge-tunnel is unusual in the number of different types of major structures included in one crossing. The southernmost island offers fishing and restaurant facilities. Toll charged.
