Fairfax is located in
Fairfax County in the
Eastern Region of the state. The city of Fairfax is a residential community on the west side of the Washington D.C. metropolitan area. The original wills of George and Martha Washington are in the Judicial Center on Chain Bridge Road.
Built in 1800, the original courthouse on Chain Bridge Road has been used continously except during the Civil War, when Union troops occupied the town and used it as a stable. A monument to the first Confederate officer killed during the Civil War stands on the courthouse grounds. Fairfax is part of the Washington metro area.
