Galax is located in Grayson County. Tucked in the Blue Ridge Mountains on the North Carolina state line, Galax is noted for its pristine beauty. The town is named for the leaf of the galax, a plant indigenous to the area. The terrain is popular with mountain bikers, horseback riders and hikers, while placid rivers and streams draw anglers, canoeists and kayakers. Galax is located southwest of Roanoke, on Hwy 58/221; New River Trail State Park and Shot Tower Historic State Park are nearby.
