The Bernardine Franciscan Sisters founded Mary Immaculate Hospital, a 110-bed acute care facility, in 1952. Today the Hospital provides comprehensive and personalized care with attention to treating the whole person physically, emotionally, socially and spiritually. In 1980 Mary Immaculate moved to its new hospital in the Denbigh section of Newport News. St. Francis Nursing Center, adjacent to the hospital, is a 115-bed facility for skilled and intermediate care. Mary Immaculate continues to grow and in 1996, the hospital partnered with the Bon Secours Health System in a joint business venture.
