On top of Mill Mountain, the zoo has 45 species of animals including snow leopards, a Siberian tiger, hawks, red pandas, and Asian reptiles. Several points offer views of the city and the Roanoke Valley. The Zoo opened in 1952 with a yearly attendance of 70,000.
