Oatlands

Oatlands tells the stories of a 19th-century working plantation, a turn-of-the-century English-style country house and the families who made their home there. The house is furnished from the Eustis' collection of French and American art and antiques in a 22-room greek revival house. The gardens at Oatlands are considered among the nation's top historic restored gardens. The gardens feature a reflecting pool, boxwood allee leading to a Victorian period teahouse, rose garden, annual cutting garden, and herb garden. Only 261 acres remain of the plantation's original 3,400 acres. The grounds retain Carter's basic design of terraced formal gardens, while the fields are the setting for point-to-point races, a foxhound show and other events.
