The Rappahannock River is a stream which rises in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia and flows southeast across the coastal plain into Chesapeake Bay. Its main tributary is the Rapidan, which rises in the Blue Ridge and joins the main stream 10 miles above Fredericksburg. There are falls at Fredericksburg. Below the town, the river is a navigable estuary. The length is 250 miles.
