Stabler-Leadbeater Apothecary Museum

This apothecary is where George Washington, Robert E. Lee, James Monroe and others were patrons.

Founded in 1792 by Quaker pharmacist Edward Stabler, the apothecary shop is said to be Alexandria's oldest mercantile establishment. Old account books, prescriptions, early medical wares and collection of period apothecary containers can be seen in their original setting. The shop remained in the same family until 1933.
