Tazewell is located in
Tazewell County, of which it is the county seat, 32 miles north of Marion in western Virginia near the West Virginia state line between Gratton and Cedar Bluff along Highway 61 on the banks of the Clinch River. It is in the
Western Region of the state. The population estimate for July 1, 1998 was 4,099, a decrease of 77 since 1990.
It was named for Sen. Henry Tazewell.
