Tomb of Unknown Dead of the Civil War

The monument was dedicated in 1866 and contains the remains of 2,111 unknown soldiers. Those remains were gathered from the battlefields of Bull Run and the route to the Rappahannock. They became the first "Unknown Soldiers" buried in Arlington National Cemetery.
