In 1848 the slaves of the Danish West Indies were freed by Governor General Peter van Schloten as he stood on the fort's ramparts. The fort, completed in 1760, houses a number of interesting historical exhibits as well as an art gallery. Free. Open weekdays from 830am-430pm.
